Your last-minute June 15 checklist
June 15 is less than a week away.
If you're a rising junior, this is the day college coaches can finally contact you directly.
Some players will see their phones light up with emails at midnight. Others will get calls throughout the day. Some might not hear from their top choices immediately.
Regardless of which camp you fall into, being prepared matters.
The Contact Reality
Every program goes about June 15 differently.
- Some coaches only call their top prospects - others will contact hundreds of players and see who responds
- Some will cold-call, some will text to set up a time, and others will send you a link to book a video chat
- Conversations can range from a freewheeling introductory chat, to a themed call, to a simple "what questions do you have for us?"
Because you can't tell what's coming - and because you've likely never spent so much time doing professional calls and video chats - this can quickly become overwhelming.
The Preparation Checklist
The most prepared recruits take these steps.
Firstly, if you haven't already, write the final "banger" email to your top schools.
You've likely already spent plenty of time telling them why they should choose you.
This is a good time to tell them what you love about their program and what makes you a great fit.
There's no guarantee it moves the needle, but it can't hurt.
Secondly, confirm your contact information so they have the most up-to-date cellphone and email for you.
Coaches will have been double-checking this with club coaches for those they want to contact, but it's best not to leave it to chance.
Finally, create a quiet, professional space for calls, and have one or two program-specific questions ready for your favorites.
These seemingly small details make a massive difference in how coaches perceive you.
The Organization System
When calls start coming in, you need a way to track:
- Who contacted you and when
- Key points from each conversation
- Questions you asked and their answers
- Next steps discussed
- Follow-up actions needed
Without this system, critical details get lost, which can impact your ability to keep up with the nuance of each school's process.
I built a Notion dashboard that helps you do this - which you can get here for $10 - but you can also use what works for you.
One Thing That Works
Time-blocking is your secret weapon if things get overwhelming.
Instead of trying to take every call the moment it comes in, you can put things on your terms with a response along these lines:
"Thank you for contacting me! I'm managing multiple conversations today. Would [specific time] work for a call?"
This professional response shows you're organized, demonstrates maturity, and should help reduce stress by allowing you to plan each call.
Reality Check
June 15 is exciting, but it's also just the beginning.
The coaches who matter most aren't just evaluating your playing ability - they're assessing how you handle yourself in this process.
